The pace in the export of New Zealand onions is good. Compared to last year and the multi-year average, the kiwis are ahead. Which destinations are so fond of the New Zealand onion?
The export figures for New Zealand onions are announced every week. The difference with the Netherlands is that the export figures are announced immediately after a week. The last known export figures are those up to and including week 11.
Other destinations
Compared to last season, total exports are 8.993 tonnes ahead (+20%), with destinations including Europe, excluding the United Kingdom. A total of 35.500 tons of onions were shipped to Europe this season, compared to 33.523 tons last season up to and including week 11. It is striking that more onions were exported to 'other destinations': 9.155 tons. Last season this amounted to 5.599 tons. Although New Zealand does not specify the other destinations, insiders assume that these include Norway, Sweden and Ireland.
Countries that are specifically mentioned are Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands, where 1.478 tons, 5.002 tons, 8.559 tons and 11.308 tons of onions have already been shipped respectively. The final destination may make a difference, because onions delivered in the Netherlands will ultimately be sold within Europe.
Closer to home, Indonesia and the Pacific Islands are good buyers, in order 5.625 tons and 5.231 tons. {{dataviewSnapshot(2_1616405168)}}
