It comes as no surprise to anyone that the export rate of onions drops sharply in the second half of the marketing season. That is an annual phenomenon. The average weekly export rate achieved this season amounts to 25.418 tonnes. For just the weeks that fall in 2021, this is 15.581 tons, still an acceptable volume. This concerns the period week 1 to week 13, i.e. half of the second part of the sales season.

Great Britain pulls the export cart
Based on preliminary information, the export figure for week 13 is 13.212 tons. Great Britain took the export lead with a purchase of 2.564 tons. The volume that the British have purchased this season therefore increases to 73.857 tons, 2.681 tons more than last year up to and including week 13. The second and last buyer with more than 1.000 tons was Mauritania with 1.339 tons, good for the export of this season. 53.743 tons. A total of 1.016.721 tons of onions were exported this season. In week 13, a total of 81 countries purchased Dutch onions.

Based on available figures, estimates are made about the volume of onions that must be processed and sold in the remaining 13 weeks. When it comes to good quality onions, there are some concerns. The tension has still not abated even though the market looks calm.
