The latest figures show that the total export of onions is still ahead of the record season 2019-2020. How big is the lead?
The onion export figures announced this week concern the provisional figure for week 18. According to the first reading, this amounts to 13.152 tons. The export figures for the period weeks 9 to 17 have been adjusted by 473 tons. The adjusted export figures, plus the provisional figures from week 18, yield an export total of 1.093.928 tonnes.
Compared to the export total up to and including week 18 in 2020, the difference has decreased to 13.718 tons, while compared to week 17 it still amounted to 21.264 tons. The weekly export average for the current season is calculated at 24.309 tons.
Britain's biggest buyers
In week 18 - just like in week 17 - Great Britain is again at the top of the list of largest buyers. According to the data, the British purchased 3.726 tons of onions, bringing the total for this season to 90.590 tons (+11.006 tons compared to 2020). Germany takes second place with a decrease of 1.693 tons of onions, resulting in an export season total of 22.454 tons (-2.468 tons compared to 2020). Italy is moving up one place and is in 3rd place this week with a provisional purchase of 1.034 tons. The Italians have now purchased 6.941 tons of onions this season.
The Top 5 is completed by Mauritania and Ivory Coast, which purchased 934 tons and 555 tons of onions respectively. Total seasonal figures are 57.561 tons and 128.950 tons. This makes Ivory Coast an undisputed number 2 on the list of largest buyers after Senegal, which purchased 172.872 tons of onions this season.{{dataviewSnapshot(2_1622020539)}}
