For a long time, the difference between the top and the bottom of the bale prices was large on the onion market. As demand from Africa has increased, exporters and processors have been able to increase the lower end of bale prices.
In recent weeks, onion exports have mainly depended on European retail destinations. At the moment, Africa is also more prominent in the overseas market. This probably has to do with the Tabaski festival that starts on July 20. The most recent export figure is from week 18 and amounts to 13.152 tons. Exports this week (21) are expected to exceed 15.000 tons.
The mood on the farm has also become more positive in recent weeks. Growers have confidence in the market and expect a price increase, especially for the latest high-quality onions. Poland is demanding at the bottom of the market, which provides a good base. However, the sharp weather that is predicted for the coming period may cause onions to fall bald more easily.
All three regional agricultural fairs show a price increase this week compared to last week. When all odds are compared, €14 to €17 is paid. In addition, the stock exchange committee in Emmeloord reflects the onion market as price-sensitive, which means that supply is smaller or equal to demand.
Bale prices were at a stable level for a long time. Due to the increased demand from Africa, the lower end of the bale prices has risen. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions
