Onion export does not jump in the last week of May

Slightly declining export figures on onions make it clear that the last period of the season has arrived. Is there still a lead on last season?

The provisional export figure for onions for week 21 is 12.936 tons. What is also striking is the relatively large volume of delayed export dates. Over the period weeks 13 to 20, this amounts to 2.966 tons. The total export figure for this season amounts to 1.138.606 tons, which is an increase of 6.003 tons compared to the previous season (last week 5.254 tons).

The average weekly export figure for calendar year 2021 is 15.449 tonnes, compared to 19.732 tonnes over the same period in 2020. For the entire season from 2020 to 2021, the weekly average is 23.720 tonnes. With 7.171 tons, European countries were cumulatively the largest buyers of Dutch onions.

Ivory Coast a strong buyer
In week 21, the British again pulled the export cart with a purchase of 2.392 tons and with a total purchase of 99.904 tons, they remain just below the 100.000 ton limit. Places 2, 3 and 4 were taken by African buyers in week 21. Guinea bought 1.258 tons of onions, Ivory Coast 1.180 tons and Mauritania 960 tons. The countries mentioned have jointly purchased 252.232 tons of onions this season, compared to a volume of 221.676 tons last year. It was Ivory Coast in particular that purchased 21 more tons of onions this season up to and including week 24.341, an increase of 22,6%.{{dataviewSnapshot(2_1623837723)}}
