The most recent export figures are from the last week of May. According to provisional figures, 12.936 tons of onions were exported this week. As usual, exports decrease at the end of the season. There are still a few weeks of old harvest to go and, like every year, export destinations are increasingly switching to new harvests.

The new Dutch harvest is at least a week behind the average harvesting periods. Normally, the necessary plots of winter onions are cleared around June 20. This year it is too early. The harvest for the majority of winter onions will probably start between June 28 and July 1. Since these onions cannot be processed immediately, some packers still need old onions to bridge the gap.

Packer waits
However, there is little trade for these last onions on the farm. Many packers have already stopped and the packers who are still working are waiting quietly or first use the last onions. The regional stock exchange listings in Goes and Emmeloord both show a negative rating. In Goes the quotation is €16 to €18 and the Stock Exchange Commission in Emmeloord comes up with a quotation of €3 to €14 17,25 days later. She describes the onion market as bland.

Bale prices are also under some pressure now that customers are becoming smaller. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
