Ivory Coast and Hong Kong are the onion champions '20/'21

The 2020-2021 season went well for the export of onions. All the efforts that have been made have led to record sales. Now that the first indication of week 26 has been announced, the balance can be drawn up.

It seemed to be a neck-and-neck race compared to the last season in terms of onion export results. Now that the provisional export figure for week 26 has been announced, 7.815 tons, the lead appears to be at least 13.228 tons. The provisional total export figure for this season is 1.185.622 tons, an average of 22.619 tons per week.

The Gambia purchased the most onions in week 26 with 1.861 tons, followed by Great Britain with 1.689 tons. The 2 largest buyers among the destinations that purchased less than 1.000 tons were Guinea with 916 tons and Ivory Coast with 824 tons.

3 countries imported more than 100.000 tons of onions
The 2020-2021 season has 3 countries that purchased more than 100.000 tons of onions. These are Senegal with 172.872 tons (last season 170.498 tons), Ivory Coast with 137.934 tons (last season 109.582 tons) and Great Britain with 110.597 tons (last season 96.203 tons).

Ivory Coast is also the country that has purchased the highest number of tons of onions more than last season. Bangladesh and the Philippines follow with 18.798 tonnes and 16.213 tonnes respectively more than last season.

Hong Kong's decline skyrockets
In percentage terms, Hong Kong is at the top with a decrease that is 2450% higher than last season. Mayotte also scores well with 1020%. Oman disappoints the most at minus 99,13%, although the decrease of 69 kilos is only a very small fraction of total exports. The onions went to buyers in 131 countries this season.
