The first export figures of the new season have been announced. Senegal has been the largest buyer of Dutch onions for many years. Only the Dutch onions are not allowed to go there yet. Only when Senegal officially issues an import quota, onions can be imported.
The first export figures of this season were published this week. The weekly sales of 7.221 tons in week 27 are in line with the figures of recent years. Exports still have to get going at the beginning of the season. Slightly more onions are now being exported every week. It is mainly a matter of waiting until Senegal opens its gates. This has not yet been discussed, so a start date for the Senegalese market is not yet known.
Few buyers
Few onions are purchased in free trade. There is still enough product available from processors to meet demand. However, there are many quality problems that arise. Bacterial problems in particular are more common than in previous years.
The stock exchange committee in Goes has published two quotations this week. The price range for ex-field onion sets is €7.5 to €8,0, which is a decrease of €1.75 compared to last week. The quotation for onion sets from storage amounts to €8 to €10, this is the first quotation out of storage of this season.
The bale prices for the medium and fine sizes are €15, for the coarser grading the bale costs €14. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
