In recent years, the Dutch export market has increasingly relied on the continent of Africa. When these markets are available, there is a tendency to put many onions on the quays in a short period of time. The result of this is that exports often move in waves: we put a lot of onions on the quays, after which things calm down again because buyers first clear their stocks. At the moment, demand from Africa, and especially from Senegal, is somewhat calmer because there are enough supplies.

Demand on the farm is also somewhat calmer. Many processors have done their shopping in recent weeks, so that the work inventory is back up to standard. Many onions have also been loaded in the past 2 weeks. Some of these are contract onions that have now been sent to storage.

Despite the calmer purchasing behavior at the farm, the mood among onion growers remains stable. Due to the rising market in recent weeks and the disappointing yields, growers are not inclined to just hand over onions.

Stock market prices have taken another step in the right direction this week. All stock exchange quotations show a small plus. When we compare these quotations, the price for seed onions is €7 to €11. The quotations also show that coarse lots are currently worth more than finer lots.

Bale prices are at a stable level. Due to the oversupply in Africa, exporters are unable to raise bale prices. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
