To start with the latter. The first blow is worth a dollar, the Dutch know that better than anyone. This saying also applies to the export of onions. Most onions are exported in the first half of the onion season, which means that purchasing activities are also at their highest during that period.

The onion market has experienced a positive price development, but there has not really been price euphoria. Underneath the surface, area and yield play a role in setting the mood on the onion market. But there is one more element to take into account and that is quality. Being firmly committed to onions is good, but experts say that is only possible if the quality of the onions allows this.

Then the numbers. With a provisional export result of 33.228 tons in week 36, the Netherlands has once again achieved an export weekly record. Never before have so many onions been exported in week 36 and this is not the first time this season. Records were also achieved in weeks 34 and 30. Taking the seasons into account, this season now takes first place, which is an achievement because this season only started in week 28.

Ivory Coast's largest customer to date
In week 36, Senegal was the largest buyer with 9.796 tons. The country accounts for the purchase of 29.779 tons this season. Ivory Coast follows in 2nd place with 4.774 tons and, with a purchase of 40.920 tons, is the Dutch largest customer to date (20% of the total). Great Britain purchased 2.567 tons of onions and, with 22.274 tons, is the third on the cumulative list of largest onion buyers. The total export result stands at 204.653 tons, which corresponds to a weekly average of 22.739 tons.{{dataviewSnapshot(2_1632907915)}}
