Exports to Africa are currently going well. Because a number of ships are scheduled, the well-known countries from Africa purchase large volumes of onions. Another destination where many onions are currently going is the Polish industrial market. This market is mainly attended by high-risk parties and onions with defects.
With the holidays approaching, Poland has a good market for such onions. Many restaurants need peeled product during the holidays. The onions exported to the Polish industrial market are generally not included in the published export figures. In reality, therefore, more onions are exported than is published.
On the farm, relatively good money is paid for these 'problem parties'. The prices for industrial parties are around €6 to €7 gross, while for the mainstream market they mainly sell for €10. However, on the common market, tare and any tare discount are still deducted from the price.
The stock exchange listings in Goes and Middenmeer showed a downward trend in stock exchange listings at the beginning and middle of the week. The stock exchange committee in Emmeloord, which is the last to issue a quotation, left the quotation unchanged this week. When all three quotations are compared, the price for yellow seed onions is €9,50 to €11,50.
