The onion trade of BV Nederland can be proud of the export figures. Despite this, there is little appetite for purchase on the farmer.
According to the latest export figures (week 44), export figures are more than 17.000 tonnes ahead of the record year 2020. There has also been more trade to Poland this year, the volumes of which are largely not included in the published export figures.
Despite the good results, the mood on the farm is not showing up. The onion market is under pressure after the publication of the yield estimate. There has also been little commotion on the farm this week. Processors do not actively show up at the farm, because they are regularly offered batches by the growers. Many farmers want to sell their onions before Christmas. With these thoughts in mind, time to sell is running out.
The bottom of the quotations stands out
All three stock exchange listings continue the downward trend of recent weeks. What is most striking is that the bottom of the quotes is below €10. If we compare all three quotations, then €9 to €11 is paid for yellow seed onions. The stock exchange committees in Emmeloord and Goes have not issued a quotation for red onions.
It is already the third week in a row that the stock exchange committee in Emmeloord has too few transactions to achieve a red onion listing. Many red onions were purchased on a speculative basis, especially at the beginning of the season. As a result, all those interested in red onions have already taken a position and are allowing the working supplies to shrink somewhat first.
Bale prices have also fallen somewhat. For Africa, width €14,50 to €15,50 is charged for the common sizes. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
