The latest export figures for onions fit in perfectly with those in their thirties in recent weeks. Nevertheless, the lead on the record year is shrinking. How big is this one?
The most recent export figure for onions, that of week 45, is 35.449 tons based on provisional information. Based on subsequent information, the export result will be increased by 776 tons. This brings the cumulative export figure to 537.445 tonnes, which amounts to an average of 29.858 tonnes per week. The difference with last year is now 6.410 tons, which is a decline compared to last week of 10.856 tons.
The export result is mainly shaped by buyers from Africa. Senegal is at the top of the list of largest buyers at this time of the season with a purchase of 6.538 tons. The total purchase has now passed the 100.000 tonne mark and now stands at 101.066 tonnes.
Customers in 86 countries
Ivory Coast is number 2 with a purchase of 5.332 tons. A total of 89.784 tons of onions were exported to Ivory Coast this season, which is 10.884 tons more than last season. Great Britain once again claims third place with a purchase of 3.048 tons. Up to and including week 45, 46.845 tons of onions have been shipped across the Channel.
