Onion exports have started the year well. The average export of the first four weeks of this year amounts to 22.932 tons of onions per week. Last year, the average export figure in the first four weeks of the calendar year was 17.654 tonnes. The plus is mainly in orders from Africa. Although this demand is, as always, slowing down a notch, purchasing power in January was higher than usual for that time. At the moment it is a bit quieter in exports, the current export figure is probably just under 20.000 tons.

Many packers have not yet sufficiently replenished their working supplies. Low working inventories in combination with a lot of mood on the farmer is a good mix for rising prices. The mood of the farmer therefore remains fixed for the time being, as it is fueled by high transactions that are mainly paid in the long term.

The three regional agricultural fairs once again showed a plus in their quotations this week. The most striking are the quotations in Emmeloord, for both size gradings they are listed at €11 to €14. In addition, the stock exchange committee in Emmeloord indicates a fixed mood, which means that demand is greater than or equal to supply.

In contrast to farm prices, it is difficult to increase bale prices. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
