Bayer CropScience is working on a possibility to keep the fungicide Fandango available in the Netherlands for onion cultivation for next season. This can be done via a minor change. A decision on this has not yet been taken.
BO Akkerbouw applied to the NVWA for a 120-day exemption (Article 38 procedure) for Fandango with a modified formulation. That became turned down† This means that a crucial fungicide is lost in an already very tight package of crop protection products. The minor change can now offer a solution. Bayer CropScience makes February 25 known to submit such an application to the Ctgb.
The company wants to use a different excipient in Fandango, because the usual excipient is not available this season due to a problem. This has created a ray of hope in the authorization of the product for the Netherlands, allowing growers to intervene in the event of a high infection pressure of, for example, downy mildew.
