There is currently little day trade on the onion market. Processors must first collect expensive batches before they buy new onions.
The latest export figure is 18.320 tons. This means that current exports are further in line with the export figures of record year 2020. Processors expect current exports to be around this level.
It is still quiet on the farm. Many onions have been sold on March in recent weeks and these are now being collected. Many of these onions were purchased relatively expensively and cost the processors money. There is therefore a lot of grumpiness among packers, which means there is little incentive to buy more onions.
The stock exchange committee in Goes released a remarkable quotation this week for 60% upward sorting. The quotation fell by €0,75 to €11,50 to €13,00. However, it was notable that the payment for good matches was up to €15. Upon inquiry, it appears that additional loads were sold for €15,00 for a previously purchased batch of onions.
The other quotations in Emmeloord and Middenmeer all show a negative difference. When all odds are compared, €30 to €60 is paid for the 10-12% coarse sort and €60 to €11 is paid for the 13% upward sort. The stock exchange committees in Emmeloord and Middenmeer currently describe the onion market as quiet and dull.
The bale prices remain unchanged. An overview of these bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
