Producer Bayer has managed to get the fungicide Fandango approved for onion cultivation this season with the help of a minor modification. The onion sector feared major problems with disease control in onions due to the disappearance of Fandango.
Bayer Crop Science made today (March 21) known that the Ctgb has granted permission for a minor change in the formulation of Fandango. An earlier application process for a 120-day exemption – by BO Akkerbouw – was rejected by the NVWA. There would be an alternative in the form of a minor change in the wording.
No changes
Bayer says that the Ctgb's decision means it will have Fandango available in a timely manner for the control of downy mildew in onion cultivation. Thanks to this method, there is no new issue, sell-out or use-up period for the current stock. Bayer has not announced whether the adjusted formulation will affect the price of the drug.
Beginning of February reported Bayer said it was experiencing problems with the production and delivery of Fandango. An additive from a supplier turned out to be unavailable, which has major consequences for production. The problems came at an extremely unfortunate time. There were only two alternatives for mold control.
