The 2021 cultivation season is entering its last weeks. It's going to be an exciting week. Exports are starting to decline, but bale prices have increased for a number of destinations.
The latest export figure (week 19) is at 14.650 tons at the lowest level of this season. However, if this figure is averaged with the good export week 18, then an average export of approximately 17.000 tons comes out. This is in line with the export figures of the previous weeks. Exports are currently expected to be around this level.
Demand from Poland is currently at a lower level. Onions are still going to the industrial market in Poland, but because that country has received a lot of supply in recent weeks, these prices are under pressure.
Due to a broken week in connection with Ascension, little trade was done on the farmer last week. More trading has taken place this week. For many growers, the calendar starts to count and they start selling. However, onion growers are still fairly stable in the market in terms of price.
The stock exchange quotations in Goes and Emmeloord remain unchanged this week. Only in Emmeloord does the stock exchange committee show a negative difference compared to last week. When all quotations are placed next to each other, €30 to €60 is paid for the 13-16% coarse grading and €60 to €14 for the 17% coarse grading.
Bale prices have taken a step this week. There is, however, a clear difference between the export destinations and the retail destinations. The bale prices for retail destinations are higher than the bale prices for export destinations. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
