The first winter onions will be harvested next week. This kicks off the 2022 cultivation season. For the time being, the old harvest is still being finished. There is nothing spectacular to experience here.
As usual, onion exports gradually decrease in the last weeks of the season. The most recent export figures are from week 21. The provisional export figure of 14.292 tons of onions exported is the lowest export figure of this season.
Many packers have already stopped running the old crop and are preparing for a new growing season. A number of packers are still on the market. The trade to the farmer for the last onions continues to ripple quietly. There are few free batches of onions left. The prices for the latter onions remain at the level of recent weeks. The quality of these parties must be good. However, this is still quite difficult because many batches are starting to wear out. For parties with defects, sales are difficult at the moment. The decline of the Polish industrial market is in fact at a very low level
The agricultural fairs show that the onion trade is coming to an end. Both the trade fair committee in Middenmeer and Emmeloord describe the onion market as bland. This means that the demand is less than or equal to the supply. Little change is visible in the quotations. The middle grade in Emmeloord and the 60% upward grade in Goes both score with a small minus. All other quotations remain unchanged.
Bale prices remain unchanged this week. The space between the bale prices and the farmer's prices has been so sharp this calendar year that packers had to work with a negative margin for a long time. With the farmers' prices and bale prices that have remained fairly unchanged in recent weeks, the margin is once again more adequate for packers. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing bale price onions.
