Onion export figures up due to late data

The export of Dutch onions is heading towards the finish line. The export figure for week 23 nevertheless holds up well and the export for weeks 14 to 22 has been adjusted considerably on the basis of further information.

The provisional export figure for week 23 is 12.715 tons. That is a decrease in exports compared to a week earlier. But the export of onions from the 2022 harvest is approaching the end, so that exports are declining fits in with the normal pattern.

What is striking about this week's figures is the subsequent information. The figure for the period from week 14 to week 22 has been revised upwards at 7.701 tons. That is unprecedentedly high. The preliminary season total stands at 1.253.421 tons. That is 8% above last season's exports. The average weekly export amounts to 26.112 tons.

Largest customers
Great Britain was the main buyer of Dutch onions in week 23 with 2.193 tons. Ivory Coast is in second place with 1.658 tons and Guinea with 1.106 tons in third. Ukraine has been a big buyer in recent weeks, but has taken a big step back in week 23. The counter stands at 918 tons, compared to 2.143 tons a week earlier.
