It took a long time before the trade in new harvest onion sets got going. At the start of this new season, mainly partial contracts were completed and onions were purchased sporadically for fixed prices. Just like last week, the fair committee in Goes was the only regional agricultural fair with a listing for onion sets. The price has remained the same as last week at €16 to €18 per 100 kilos.

Trade is only now taking off
Later in the week, however, the onion onion market started and there was a lot of trade on the farm. This has two causes: on the one hand, it is due to the warm and dry weather at the moment. This means the product has limited availability. In addition, many exporters currently assume that the market to Africa will open early this year due to poor harvests on their own continent. Processors and exporters seem to want to prepare for this by ensuring that they have sufficient stock available by the time the market opens.

Starting this week, the DCA listing Bale price Onions switch to the bale price quotations for the new harvest. With the limited supply of new product in prospect, these bale prices are expected to remain stable in the coming week.
