The provisional result of the onion export figures shows a significant decrease. One that largely explains the gut feeling in the market.
The most recent export figures for onions concern the export realized in week 40. This amounts to 27.337 tons. The previously published figures for the period weeks 31 to 39 have been increased by 3.068 tons. This results in an export total of 385.763 tons, which means an average export of 27.554 tons per week. The difference with the last season is 22.399 tons, compared to 23.621 tons last week.
Who is pulling the export cart?
In week 40 it was not Senegal that pulled the export cart, but Ivory Coast. The Ivorians purchased 5.453 tons of onions, followed by the British with 2.915 tons and buyers in Senegal bought 2.777 tons of onions. In total, customers from seven countries accounted for a total purchase of 17.666 tons.
