The export figure in week 44 of over 29.000 shows that onions are not overly busy. Sorters have enough work, but there is no real pressure. In order to continue to supply, purchases must be made now that stocks are becoming considerably smaller. However, negotiating is difficult because growers are very persistent and aim high for good parties. The lots that are offered or that are easier to negotiate have lower quality or a finer selection.

For good lots, growers bet on a minimum price of €35 in December and even €40 for delivery in January. The bale price is currently rising slowly, but is nowhere near keeping up with the grower's price. These prices vary further. In addition, the question is whether the bale price can rise that far in January. After all, the onions have to be sold at even higher prices and the question is whether this can be paid for by importers. For example, Senegal seemed to be dropping out with even more expensive onions due to the introduced price ceiling, but they have now increased the ceiling of €0,75 per kilo. Whether the onions will not become too expensive will become clear in the coming weeks.

This week does The DCA quotation Bale price of Onions just like last week, a careful step up. With all the gradings mixed together, a good batch of onions works out at approximately €37 to €38 per 100 kilos. Triplets remain the same at an average of €32. Prices of €40 are mentioned for the supermarkets that are relatively few this season.
