Dutch onions remain in high demand. Africa is dominant in this respect, but more destinations are doing well on the market, as the most recent export figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis show.
In week 47, 35.265 tons of onions were exported. That is a significant jump of more than 7.000 tons compared to a week earlier. The export figure for week 47 is also well above the average of 29.393 tonnes so far this season. Based on subsequent information, 674 tons have been added to the export total, which now stands at 617.259 tons.
Ivory Coast was the most important destination in week 47 and purchased 7.209 tons of onions. Ivory Coast is therefore also the first customer to break the 100.000 tonne barrier. The seasonal total now stands at 100.223 tons. The numbers two and three in week 47 are Great Britain with 3.179 tons and the Dominican Republic with 2.965 tons.
