Records are not broken in the current onion export season, but exports are continuing well. The most recent export figures confirm this picture. Senegal and Ivory Coast are leading the way.
In week 48, 33.485 tons of onions were exported, according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The export is therefore above the seasonal average of 29.585 tonnes so far. Compared to last week, exports have taken a step back by almost 2.000 tons. Based on subsequent information, 126 tons have been added to the export total, which now stands at 650.871 tons.
Senegal was the largest buyer of Dutch onions in week 48 with 7.638 tons. Ivory Coast and Great Britain follow at some distance with 5.197 and 3.584 tonnes respectively. Exports to Senegal and Ivory Coast are therefore 14% and 4% behind the export total last season up to and including week 48. Great Britain, on the other hand, purchased 12% more onions. The list contains nine countries that purchased more than 1.000 tons of onions in week 47. The bottom in the export statistics is Grenada. Dutch exporters sent exactly 1 kilo of onions to the island in the Caribbean.
