Onion export figures in January are encouraging

It was expected that the onion export would take a step back in the second half. However, exports are declining much less than several insiders had counted on.

In week 3, 18.363 tons of onions were exported according to data from KCB/GroentenFruithuis. That is 2.000 tons less than a week earlier, but close to the five-year average. In the first two weeks of 2023, 237 tons have been added to the export total based on subsequent information. The total export to date amounts to 834.109 tons. The average weekly export is therefore 28.762 tons.

Spain presents itself
Guinea was the largest buyer of Dutch onions in week 3 with 2.779 tons. That is almost equal to Great Britain, which imported 2.777 tons of onions from the Netherlands. Spain is in third place with 1.338 tons. Ivory Coast and Senegal have dropped from the list of top destinations and are now in fifth and fourteenth place respectively.
