The onion export in the first weeks of January is not disappointing at all. In fact, exports picked up somewhat in week 4 compared to a week earlier.
In the last full week, 18.813 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is almost 500 tons more than in week 3. The total export this season amounts to 852.953 tons. Only in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons were more onions exported this week.
Great Britain was by far the largest buyer of Dutch onions in week 4 with 3.642 tons. Senegal follows at some distance with 2.875 tons. This is followed by Guinea with 1.515 tonnes and Spain with 1.236 tonnes.
72 countries buy onions
For the entire season so far, Senegal is firmly in first place with a total of 162.484 tonnes, followed by Ivory Coast with 122.716 tonnes. In week 4, 72 countries purchased onions from the Netherlands.
