Where the onion price fluctuates considerably, onion export seems to be a stable factor. The sorters and exporters mainly depend on the demand from Europe at the moment.
In week 11, 12.011 tons of onions were exported, according to the latest figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is just under 250 tons more than in week 10. There are also no major changes in terms of destinations for Dutch onions. Great Britain was also by far the largest buyer in week 11, with 2.760 tons this week. Spain and Germany follow at a distance with 1.753 and 1.148 tonnes respectively. European destinations are also well represented in exports. Apart from Israel and Congo, the top ten largest buyers in week 11 consist solely of European countries.
The total export so far this season stands at 958.891 tons. Three countries have imported more than 100.000 tons of Dutch onions. Senegal is second with 1623.484 tons, followed by Ivory Coast with 123.849 tons. These countries did, however, purchase fewer onions than last season. Great Britain bought 112.759 tons of onions, which is about 9.000 tons more than last season.
