Onion exporters are still making a final sprint

Onion exports are still in good shape. In the most recent figures, exports show an increase. Europe remains dominant in the list of destinations, although there are a number of shifts.

In week 18, 13.811 tons of onions crossed the border, according to export figures from KCB/GoentenFruit Huis. That is more than 2.000 more than in week 17. The cumulative export this season therefore amounts to 1.055.235 tons. Only in the three previous seasons more onions were exported.

Changing of the Guard
Great Britain remains unchanged at number one as the largest weekly buyer with 3.184 tons, followed by Germany, which is good for a weekly export of 1.838 tons. Guinea is suddenly back on the market for Dutch onions and is in third place with 1.222 tons. That is almost 1.000 more than in week 17. Spain has largely dropped out and accounted for a purchase of 713 tons of onions, compared to 1.199 tons a week earlier. With the exception of Guinea, the first sixteen countries on the list of major buyers are all located in Europe.
