There is no question of large crowds in the last weeks of the 2022/23 onion season. That is not a shame at all in a season that can rightly be called memorable for several reasons.
In week 24, 5.892 tons of Dutch onions were exported according to the latest export figures from KCB/GroentenFruithuis. Dutch exporters have thus shifted down a gear compared to a week earlier. In total, more than 1,1 million tons have already been exported this season.
Great Britain remains the most important sales market for Dutch exporters and purchased 2.291 tons of onions. That is almost equal to the export in week 23. At number 2 we find a country that we do not often encounter at the top, namely Sweden, good for 783 tons. Germany completes the top three and purchased 610 tons. In addition to the European destinations, three South American countries are also in the export top 10 this week. Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and Guyana each purchased between 150 and 100 tons of onions. Last on the list is the sunny tax paradise of the Bahamas, which accounts for no less than 3 kilos.
