A turbulent final phase of the 2022/23 onion season is not exactly reflected in the export figures. Getting rid of the last remnants that the picture that new onion export figures emerges. That is not a problem at all, in fact it ensures that we could start the new season with a clean slate.
A week's export of 3.147 tons in week 26 (figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis) is nothing to write home about. The five-year average for this week is just under 9.400 tons. The Dutch sorters have only done a third of that this year. The onions have grown nicely towards the end of the season.
Great Britain remains the largest buyer of Dutch onions. In week 26, buyers on the other side of the North Sea purchased 1.200 tons. That is a small decrease of more than 100 tons compared to a week earlier. Sweden follows at a considerable distance from Great Britain with 460 tons and Germany with 439 tons. In total, Dutch onions went to 44 destinations, but only half of them purchased more than 10 tons.
