The first export figures of the new season are known. Dutch exporters are starting cautiously with exports slightly below the five-year average.
In week 27, the Dutch onion sector exported 5.820 tons of onions according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The five-year average for this week is 7.787 tons, but last year the average increased considerably by 13.270 tons.
Great Britain is by far the largest buyer of onions with 2.596 tons. Belgium is in second place with 573 tons and in third place is Ivory Coast, which imported 406 tons of onions from the Netherlands.
There were a total of 42 destinations where Dutch exporters sold onions. The average export per destination is 139 tons. Ten countries are above this average in the first week of the new season. At the bottom of the list is Saudi Arabia, which imported 10 kilos of onions.
