After a hesitant start, the pace in onion exports has increased considerably in the second week of the new season. Compared to last season, exports are still somewhat behind, but we are above the five-year average for this week.
Dutch onion exporters shipped 28 tons of onions across the border in week 13.028, according to the most recent export figure from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is just over a doubling compared to the export in week 27. The total export in the first two weeks therefore amounts to 18.854 tons. that is more than 10.000 tons less than last season.
Africa to the market
Great Britain is and remains by far the largest buyer of Dutch onions with 2.961 tons in week 28. Africa is back in the top 10 of most important destinations. Senegal, Guinea, Gambia, Ivory Coast and Mauritania successively purchased 1.702 to 645 tons of onions. From Latin America and the Caribbean, we only find Jamaica in the top 10 with 322 tons.
