Africa is on the market and that is now clearly reflected in the export figures. For the first time this season, weekly exports exceed 20.000 tonnes. The trusted leader of the export list has to make way.
In week 31, Dutch onion exporters shipped 23.013 tons of onions across the border. That is almost equal to the export in the same week last season. A total of 75.933 tons of onions have now been exported this season. That is almost 20.000 tons less than last season.
Senegal in the lead
By far the largest buyer of onions is Senegal in week 31 with 7.881 tons. Great Britain, which has been leading the list for months, is now in second place with 3.501 tons. Guinea sold 2.251 tons of onions, placing it in third place. Ivory Coast and Mauritania each also imported more than 1.000 tons. In total, Dutch onions went to 65 different destinations, with 16 countries importing less than 1 tonne.
