We can't call it early in the carrot season, but we are still a few weeks too early for harvesting carrots for storage. And that is also the shortcoming in the carrot trade. The market is now falling through the cracks.
Demand from rinsers for carrots for direct processing is limited. The regular work continues, but in terms of exports, things are not going well. It's a pallet here, with luck a container there, and then that's the end of it. It is still too early for the commercial alternative - putting the carrot in the refrigerator - regardless of the tropical temperatures we are currently experiencing. All of this means that it is simply quiet on the carrot market.
Under pressure
The price of b-carrot in the DCA Listing is under considerable pressure and this week amounts to €16 to €22 per 100 kilos. Various sorters draw on the undersized c-carrot to serve customers who are keen on prices with b-carrot. That also explains the relatively wide price range. Little has changed in the c-peen. The DCA Quotation has remained the same at €10 to €14 per 100 kilos. It remains a fighting market, some flushers indicate.
