Just a 10.000 ton difference in an export week. That is quite extreme, especially in this period when exports have yet to really get going. It is West Africa that plays an important role in this.
In week 33, 25.422 tons of Dutch onions crossed the border. That is a big step compared to the 15.376 tons in week 32. The counter stands at 117.833 tons so far this export season. This means that exports are considerably behind last season, when 33 tonnes were shipped across the border up to and including week 150.807.
Senegal is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of volume. The country in West Africa accounted for a weekly export of 10.806 tons. Great Britain and Ivory Coast follow at a great distance with 2.577 and 2.483 tonnes respectively. Ivory Coast remains special because it has imported no more than half of last season. A total of 67 countries were buyers of Dutch onions, with an order from Nigeria of 5 kilos at the bottom of the list.
