Senegal is without a doubt the largest onion importer

It is ahead of and Africa after in onion exports at the moment. Apart from Britain, only African countries in this week's export figures purchased more than 1.000 tonnes. The weekly export does not break any records, but in week 36 it was stepped up again.

In week 36, 28.900 tons of Dutch onions crossed the border, according to the recent publication by KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. Compared to week 35, this is 4.500 tons more, but compared to the five-year average, exports are lagging behind, namely 31.500 tons. A total of 197.045 tons were exported this season. Exports are therefore approximately 20% behind last season.

Fits and starts
Senegal was by far the most important destination for Dutch onions with 9.368 tons. The importance of Senegal is also noticeable in trade. Whether or not a boat for the country makes a world of difference in the mood, especially among the sorters. It comes in fits and starts. Number two on the export list this week, Ivory Coast is good for 3.393 tons. Great Britain follows next and is a stable factor in exports with 3.051 tons. Seven destinations purchased more than 1.000 tons of onions this week. In total, Dutch onions went to 72 different countries, with Jordan at the bottom of the list, which purchased 18 kilos of onions.
