Everything does not happen automatically in onion exports. This is confirmed again this week in the export figures. The 30.000 plus tons was far from possible.
In week 42, 24.042 tons of onions crossed the border, according to the export figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is approximately 4.500 tons less than in week 41 and also below the five-year average for week 42. This somewhat disappointing export is not unexpected, however. Week 42 (October 16 to 22) was just the tail end of the field deliveries. Then things started to get more difficult.
There are a few notable shifts in the list of largest customers. For the first time this season, Ivory Coast is the largest buyer with 4.520 tons. The constant value this season is Great Britain in second place with 3.226 tons and Senegal in third place with 2.943 tons. Brazil, where there was a lot of buzz in mid-October, ultimately imported 'only' 604 tons of onions in week 42.
