The rally on the onion market that started at the end of November is clearly reflected in the export figures. After 6 weeks in which exports remained below 30.000 tons, the latest figures suddenly reveal the next milestone.
In week 47, Dutch exporters exported 38.656 tons of onions, according to the most recent figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is more than 9.000 tons more than in week 46. This brings the seasonal total to 520.126 tons, compared to 617.751 tons over the same period last year.
Africa in the lead
Senegal is by far the largest buyer of Dutch onions with 12.720 tons. In total, Senegal has already imported 115.850 tons of Dutch onions this season. That is just 18.000 tons more than last season. Ivory Coast follows Senegal both in weekly exports with 6.049 tons and in exports so far this season, which amounts to 68.095 tons. Last season, Ivory Coast broke the 100.000 ton mark this week. Great Britain is confidently in third place in week 47, good for 3.662 tons. This week, Dutch onions went to 85 different countries.
