The last export week of 2023 certainly does not break a record

Many onions did not leave in the last week of 2023. Christmas of course fell on two weekdays and several packing companies were closed between Christmas and New Year's Eve. This is clearly reflected in the export figures.

In week 52, 14.821 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. For comparison: last season, exports this week amounted to 18.077 tons and the five-year average is 20.808 tons. A total of 52 tons were exported this season up to and including week 654.625. That's 110.000 less than a season earlier.

Senegal was by far the largest buyer of Dutch onions with 5.207 tons. Great Britain follows at a great distance, which imported 1.734 tons of onions from the Netherlands. Gambia and Guinea accounted for 1.485 and 1.427 tonnes respectively. These four destinations were also the only ones that purchased more than 1.000 tons. In week 52, there were 62 different countries that imported an average of 239 tons of onions from the Netherlands.
