It has been lukewarm on the onion market in recent weeks. The export figures, which are several weeks behind, confirm the moderate mood among sorters. The output remains stable and is nothing to write home about.
In week 5, 16.297 tons of onions were exported, according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is 600 tons less than in week 4. A total of 739.373 tons of Dutch onions have been exported so far this season. Exports are therefore 15% behind last season.
The main buyer in week 5 was again Great Britain, which imported 2.171 tons of onions from the Netherlands. This is followed by Gambia, accounting for 1.786 tonnes, and Senegal with 1.516 tonnes. 81 different countries were on the market for onions from the Netherlands, five of which purchased more than 1.000 tons.
