Things are certainly not booming in onion exports

It is on the quiet side in onion exports. Compared to last week, exports are taking another step back. To put a positive spin on it: a decline in exports is not unusual for this time of year.

In week eight, Dutch exporters exported 14.262 tons of onions, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is 500 tons less than in week seven. The five-year average for week eight is 16.978 tons and last season when onion prices were rising rapidly during this period, 15.360 tons were exported.

Great Britain was the largest buyer of Dutch onions, accounting for 3.015 tons. That is almost 500 tons more than a week earlier. Israel imported 1.344 tons of onions from the Netherlands. These are the only countries that purchased more than 1.000 tons. Spain is in third place with 892 tons. The onions went to a total of 81 different countries and last on the list this week is Egypt, which imported 5 kilos of onions.
