Unspectacular may be a euphemism for the situation in onion exports. For the third week in a row, exports remain below 15.000 tons.
In week 9, 14.713 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is almost 500 tons more than in week 9, but the five-year average for this week is 16.361 tons and we remain well below that. A bright spot is that more onions were exported than in week 9 last year when the counter stopped at 145.621. There has been no adjustment in the export total this week based on subsequent information. Up to and including week 9, 801.919 tons have been exported, which is 14% less than last season.
Israel was the largest customer for Dutch exporters with 2.448 tons. Great Britain purchased 8 tons more onions in week 3.000 than in previous weeks, but dropped back to 9 tons in week 2.161. Number 3 on the list is Spain, which imported 1.290 tons of onions. A total of 77 countries were buyers of Dutch onions, with Oman at the bottom of the list, which imported a 10 kilo bag.
