Onion exports are rebounding somewhat in the most recent export figure. Great Britain is and remains a major customer, but a lot of onions are also sent to distant destinations.
In week 17, 19.228 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is just under 3.000 tons more than in week 16 and more than 3.000 tons more than the five-year average for week 17. Little by little, the export gap compared to last season is also decreasing. However, it remains a large gap with a total of 941.166 tons so far this season compared to 1.041.478 tons last season.
Great Britain is also the largest buyer of Dutch onions this week with 2.871. Guinea is in second place and imported 2.099 tons. This is followed by Brazil, which imported 1.502 tons of onions from the Netherlands. Ivory Coast is also participating and is also in the top 10.
