Little by little, the gap in onion exports compared to last season is being made up for. The latest export figure is again well above the same week last season and also above the five-year average.
In week 20, 18.055 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is 1.000 tons less than in week 19, the week of Ascension Day, but more than 4.000 tons more than week 20 last season, and more than 1.000 tons more than the five-year average. A total of 996.968 tons of onions were exported this season. This means we are 87.614 tons behind, or 8% behind last season.
Great Britain was by far the largest customer of Dutch exporters with 2.273 tons. This is followed by Ivory Coast, which imported 1.506 tons of Dutch onions. Third place is taken by Germany with 989 tons. This week, 73 countries were buyers of Dutch onions, purchasing an average of 247 tons. The bottom line is Jordan, which imported 18 kilos of onions.
