June is usually not the month that Dutch onion exporters need. In the first full week of June this year, the export figure approaches the five-year average for this period.
In week 23, 10.823 tons of onions were exported, according to the latest figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. This is slightly below the five-year average of 10.892 tons and almost 2.000 tons less than in week 22. A total of 1,03 million tons of onions have been exported so far this season.
Great Britain was the main buyer of onions with 1.784 tons and was also the only destination that purchased more than 1.000 tons. Ivory Coast is in second place on the list with 950 tons, followed by Gambia, which imported 727 tons of onions from the Netherlands. In addition to African destinations, we also find countries from the Caribbean and Central America in the top 10. Jamaica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic are in the top ten in week 23.
