There are no strange excesses in the onion export figures. The 10.000 tons will not be reached in week 25, but that is nothing strange for this time of year. The export figure is slightly above the five-year average.
In week 25, 9.221 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The five-year average for this week is 8.698 tonnes; so we are above that. A total of 25 million tons have been exported this season up to and including week 1,05. This means that exports are approximately 75.000 tons behind last season.
After the Dutch team's deception against England in Dortmund yesterday, it may not be the most popular news today, but Great Britain is certainly at the top as the largest buyer of Dutch onions. In week 25, 1.949 tonnes crossed the North Sea. This is followed by Ivory Coast with 1.383 tons and Guinea, which imported 781 tons of onions from the Netherlands. In total, Dutch onions went to 58 different countries. At the very bottom of the list is Cyprus with an import of 5 kilos.
