In week 28, Dutch exporters sold 9.730 tons of onions, according to the latest figures from KCB/GroentenFruithuis. That is considerably more than last week, when 6.010 tons were exported. A small correction of plus 27 tons took place in week 34. Compared to the past two seasons, the new season is clearly lagging behind, but compared to the 2020 and 2021 harvest years, even slightly less was exported in the second week of the export season.

The two largest importers of Dutch onions are Ivory Coast with 1.757 tons and Guinea with 1.611 tons of onions. Great Britain follows with a volume of 1.603 tons. The top five is completed by Belgium with 1.141 tons and Senegal with 696 tons. This means that West Africa is well represented.

The latter is a striking one. Senegal was expected to enter the market a little later this year before the country came for imports. According to the Dutch exporters, this is also the case and little volume has been prepared for Senegal since week 28. With 696 tons it is also a small volume. While Senegal was early to the market last year and exports for the country increased rapidly these weeks.

Nearly 700 tons have also been exported to Nicaragua in the first two seasons. While the counter stood at 0 in the same two weeks last year.
