For the first time this season, the weekly figure for onion exports exceeds 20.000 tonnes. Two important African countries are a market and that shows. Senegal and Ivory Coast account for more than half of Dutch onion exports.
In week 32, Dutch exporters exported 24.685 onions, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. Last season this week, that was 15.424 tons and the five-year average is 22.710 tons. In total, 90.331 tons were exported this season. That is almost the same as last season up to and including week 32, when the counter stood at 92.532 tons.
The largest buyer of onions from the Netherlands was Senegal with 6.893 tonnes. Ivory Coast follows shortly after, which was good for 5.771 tonnes. Great Britain follows at a considerable distance, importing 1.907 tonnes of onions from the Netherlands.
