Onion exporters have got a taste for it

The zigzag movement in onion export, where good and bad were alternated, has been broken. After the reasonably good export in week 41, week 42 passed 38.000 for the first time this season.

In week 42, 38.300 tons of onions crossed the border, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The five-year average for this week is 33.858 tons and last year in week 42, 24.426 tons of onions were exported. In total, 396.588 tons were exported this season. Compared to last season, exports have grown to 21.000 tons.

Senegal was by far the most important destination for Dutch onions with 8.411 tonnes. Ivory Coast also had a good market with an import of 6.251 tonnes. Mali is in third place with 2.399 tonnes. Eleven countries bought more than 1.000 tonnes of onions, five of which bought more than 2.000 tonnes. In total, Dutch onions went to 87 different countries.
